Lars Grael and Samuel Gonçalves: Brazilian champions of the Star class

The pair from Rio de Janeiro, Lars Grael and Samuel Gonçalves, dominated with absolute supremacy the Brazilian Championship of the Star class in Brasília (DF). In the four days of competition, Lars and Samuca won five of the seven races on Lake Paranoá, with wind from southeast to east always between 15 and 20 knots , which contributed to ratify the talent of the newly-arrival from Denmark, where they it conquered the secondo place in the Star World Championship.

The event organized by the Yacht Club of Brasilia brought together 19 doubles and will award 250 points in the next update of the Star Sailors League (SSL) ranking, created by the sailors of the class considered as the noblest sail among the monotypes. "I'm really happy with this title. The city of Brasilia surpassed us. We were very impressed with strong and constant winds throughout the week and the fleet was very strong and Marcelo Bellotti's second place and Admar Gonzaga's third place were well deserved", praised Lars Grael.

The champion did not even have to run the seventh regatta. The title was already assured in anticipation after the sixth race.Samuel proclaimed the efficiency of the double champion, better tied to each competition. "We have only two days to pratices in Brasilia, but we have adjusted the boat's regulations and we have kept our attention on every detail of the race line," said Samuca, world champion Star with Lars Grael in 2015, in Argentina.

"What impressed me was the strength of the wind, I've never seen it in Brasilia, it was Recon (flag adopted for delaying the start of the game due to the wind above 20 knots) every day," said Samuca. In addition to the sailors in the podium, big names such as Alessandro Pascolato, Henry Boening (Maguila), Marcelo Fucks and Reinaldo Conrad, have all valued the championship." Conrad was the first Brazilian to win Olympic medal in sailing, with bronze in the Flying Dutchman class at the 1968 Mexico Games.
