Facundo Olezza second at Finn Silver Cup. The Finn Gold Cup starts today on lake Balaton

It’s a busy time in the sailing industry, as so many World Championship are taking place.

Last week it was the time of Junior Finn Worlds on lake Balaton in Hungary, where the Finnish Oskari Muhonen won, followed by SSL Finalist Facundo Olezza (ARG) and by the Irish Fionn Lyden. Today, the young Finn sailors and the less young ones, moved to the other side of Balaton lake to attend the Finn Gold Cup, with 124 entries.

Among them there are so many SSL Finalists, Facundo Olezza to start with, then Brazilian young sailor Jorge Zarif, French Finn bronze medalist in London Jonathan Lobert. And a local super sailor, who crewed for Vasilij Zbogar last December in Nassau, Zsombor Berecz.

Meanwhile in Porto, Portogallo, a big fleet of 49er and 49er FX are competing at the World Championship. SSL winner in 2013, five times Olympic medalist and a true hero in the sport of sailing is racing there now, on a new boat, with a new crew with competitors even 20 years younger than him: Robert Scheidt’s campaign for Tokyo 2020 on the 49er started after Rio 2016, but this it’s his first major event. Likewise, other Olympic medalist, Gold in Rio on the 470, is trying to move to the more athletic skiff, Sime Fantela is in Porto and is trying to walk the road to Tokyo with his brother Mihovil.

But this is not it. In Japan, in Enoshima Bay, the 470 Worlds will take place next week, after the Junior Worlds end tomorrow, Saturday September 2nd, and the new foiling Nacra 17 are all training up in La Grande Motte as the Worlds will start on September the 5th.

As for us, the list of sailors for the SSL Final 2017 is shaping up, but maybe out of these very tough regattas some wild card might be given for the winners.

Stay tuned.
