The French duo of Erwan Fischer and Clement Pequin make history as the first French team to win a 49er World Championship title. They won the top spot on the podium convincingly, ending the regatta without having to sail the last race.
With the 49er world title already claimed by France, the fight was on for silver in the medal race. The Spanish, Dutch and British teams were all in reach of second place. Having lost their title to The French, Bart Lambriex and Floris van de Werken showed their skill by claiming the silver medal. Diego Botin and Florian Trittel (ESP) managed to win bronze ahead of the surprise package of the regatta, Britain’s James Grummett and Rhos Hawes, who finished in fourth overall. The dutch duo of Odile van Aanholt and Annette Duetz claimed their title back from the Swedish team. Although Vilma Bobeck and Rebecca Netzler (SWE) hadn’t been able to hold on to the World Champion title, they sailed an incredible regatta to claim silver. Italy’s Jana Germani and Giorgia Bertuzzi claimed third place ahead of current Olympic Champions Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze (BRA). For full overall rsults click here.
