FRANCESCO BRUNI CONQUERS THE 2019 FOILING WEEK AFTER CLAIMING THE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE MOTH CLASS

Francesco Bruni's successes in the competitive Moth class continue. At Foiling Week 2019, which ended yesterday in Malcesine, on Lake Garda, Checco took first place in a fleet of over 80 Moths.

Three races per day for three days of racing with Ora - the typical afternoon breeze of Lake Garda - on 9/15 knots: ideal conditions for the small flying vehicle, constantly growing all over the world, that has hooked Bruni for quite many years already, on which he’s become European Championship just a few weeks ago.

“After the European Championship in Portugal - says Checco - this was the second most important event of the year for my 'single' season which should end with the World Cup in December in Perth, Australia, my personal goal for 2019. "

The racecourse coincided with that of the 2017 World Championship with over 200 entries, when Bruni closed in 11th position, ahead of Carlo De Paoli, just like this week. De Paoli, in fact, was the sailor with the most consistent series of results after Checco, from which he is only three points behind. Further away, the third, the Irishman Dave Kenefik, is 30 points from Palermo.

"I was fast and everything went my way this week, but I must not deceive myself, I think some of the competitors were not at the top of their form - Bruni continues - it was interesting to see Stefano Ferrighi with their new boat, the Manta Moth designed and built made in Italy, is beautiful and very fast, but like any new project it must be optimized and tried several times."

Francesco Bruni is back in Cagliari at the Luna Rossa’s headquarter, where he will resume training with the Italian team Challenger of Record for the America's Cup 2021, with the first approaching event scheduled in Cagliari next April. However, according to Checco, Cup commitments permitting, there will be the International Moth Worlds 2019 first.
