SSL TRAINING CENTRE BACK AT WORK

Training is resuming in full speed on Lake Garda at the SSL Training Centre in Fraglia Vela Riva.

This week Freddy Loof (SWE) and Diego Negri (ITA) respectively with crew Frithjof Kleen (GER) and Kilian Weise (GER) are training on Star boats for the 7th SSL Finals in Nassau, The Bahamas, next December. They are supervised by professional coaches both on and off waters and they’ll be back regularly in Riva among other international sailing stars, to arrive at the SSL Finals 2019 in great shape to have the best shot at the lion share of the 200,000$ prize pot.

“I am looking for improvement at my performance at the Finals – said Freddy Loof, Olympic Champion in the Star class, bronze both in Star and Finn – I will sail there with Brian Fatih (USA), he and I have some unfinished business from the SSL Breeze Grand Slam here in Riva, and we’ll look to do better there”.

“Riva del Garda is one of the best places in the world to train and sail, here you have the perfect conditions, and the best sparring partners. Here we are with Diego, but Robert Scheidt also lives here and his son Eric is training with my son Victor, it is a big family here!”

“I will sail with Frithjof at the Finals – continued Diego Negri, Star European Champion and a four-time Olympian – we have to finish better than last year when we were third, so we’ll try to be ahead of Freddy (laughing) this might mean that we have to go for gold. I spent a lot of time on this lake in my career and this year alone, I was here coaching the Melges 20, the Melges 32, the SSL Breeze Grand Slam, from now to December I will be training, so one day, in a few years’ time, I might take the decision to actually move here.. but not for now!”

Plenty of practice sessions scheduled at the SSL Training Centre in Riva del Garda from now to mid November, plenty of sailing superstars will stay in the beautiful Trentino town overlooking the north part of Lake Garda protected by the steep facade of the mountains.
