PETER BURLING CONQUERS THE TOP OF THE SSL GLOBAL RANKING

Pete Burling (NZL) is the new leader of the SSL Global Ranking after winning for the sixth time the 49er World Championship with his crew Blair Tuke (NZL) in Aukland last week. To this outstanding achievement, worth 2500 SSL points and only conquered on the very last day over the extraordinary German team with Erik Heil and Thomas Ploessel, they can sum the points of their Gold at the Olympics, the victory at both the Louis Vuitton Cup and the America’s Cup in Bermuda in 2017.

He’s taking the spot once held by Robert Scheidt (BRA), who won the Star European Championship and SSL Breeze Grand Slam and who has just qualified for its 7st Olympic Games where he will go for an unprecedented sixth Olympic Medal in sailing in Tokyo 2020.

Pete Burling is undoubtedly one of the leader of our sport and is now in hit right place, on top of the largest and global ranking in the world gathering more than 50'000 athletes.

Burling could be the Federer of sailing as the next 18 months holds plenty of possibility for him to collect even more SSL Points, with one more 49er Worlds next February, the Olympics in August and the 36th America’s Cup at the beginning of 2021.
