Phil Trinter and Frithjof Kleen, Star World Champions racing without a gold star

There are many World Champions at the 2017 edition in Troense, Denmark, both skippers and crews. Some of them are still racing together as a team, some others are not. The golden star is carried on by the helmsman, that’s the rule, but we spotted two former world champions on non-gold-star boats..

Phil Trinter (USA) won it twice, in Kiel, Germany in 1993 with Joe Londrigan (USA) and in San Diego in 2013 with John MacClausand (USA) – also sailing here with Peter Vessella (USA) – and Frithjof Kleen (GER) won it in 2014 in Malcesine, Italy, with Robert Stanjek (GER). Both classic Star crews, big guys, great personalities and a huge passion for sailing.
