Thomas Saunders (NZL), is the 2021 ILCA 7 World Champion

Barcelona, Spain – No races were completed today on the final day of the 2021 ILCA 7 World Championships. After a period of waiting, the race committee decided that although the wind was blowing about 15–18 knots, the waves were too large and out of control to carry out successful races. Racing was called for the day, which ended the regatta and maintained results from Day 5.

New Zealand’s Thomas Saunders secured his title as world champion, Ireland’s Finn Lynch locked in silver, and rounding out the podium was Croatia’s two-time Olympic medalist Tonči Stipanović, sixth in the SSL Global Ranking.

The new world champion, visibly happy about his achievement, said it was the “result of good harmony, communication, and trust with my coach throughout the championship.”

The awards ceremony was held at 18:30 by the president of the Catalan Sailing Federation, Xavier Torres, the president of the Real Club Marítimo de Barcelona, Miquel Delclòs, and ILCA representative, Andrus Poski.

The championship was held at the Barcelona International Sailing Center (BISC) facilities. The regatta was organized by the Catalan Sailing Federation, the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona, and the Real Club Marítimo de Barcelona.
