Gold fleet racing begins at the Optimist World Championship

After spending Thursday ashore due to huge waves hitting the beach in Costa Brava, Spain, Gold fleet racing is now underway today (Friday).

248 sailors are competing in the event with the USA’s Travis Greenberg and Sweden’s Henric Wigforss qualifying top with a nett 10 points. Wigforss has achieved a remarkable scoreline with all his counting results in the top three, and discarding a fourth. Greenberg has scored three bullets in his qualifying series races, but discarded a 22nd. Croatia’s Bepo Duplančić qualified in third.

In the top ten are three from the USA, as well as sailors from Sweden, Croatia, Thailand, France, Greece, Spain and Italy.
